Kara Marshburn, LCMHC

I'm passionate about supporting children, adolescents, teenagers, adults, and families through meaningful therapeutic work. With over 13 years of experience, I strive to make therapy both effective and engaging by incorporating creative, evidence-based interventions tailored to each client’s unique needs. I understand how essential it is to build trust early in the process—especially with younger clients—and I approach every session with empathy, curiosity, and a commitment to authentic connection.
My therapeutic style is direct, collaborative, and strengths-based. I work closely with clients to identify behavioral patterns and implement practical systems that foster lasting change. With children and teens, I partner with parents to create a supportive environment where families feel empowered and equipped to navigate challenges together. With adults, I integrate techniques such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), emotional regulation strategies, distress tolerance, and communication skills to help clients build resilience and gain clarity in their lives.  I believe that meaningful transformation begins with a strong therapeutic relationship. While I bring compassion and understanding to every session, I also challenge clients to step outside their comfort zones and explore new ways of thinking, feeling, and relating to others. My goal is to help clients develop insight, strengthen coping skills, and feel empowered to create positive, lasting change. Throughout my career, I’ve worked with individuals and families facing a wide range of concerns, including ADHD, parenting and co-parenting dynamics, relationship issues, family conflict, behavioral challenges, oppositional and defiant behaviors, aggression, anxiety, panic attacks, and depression.

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker Associate that has worked with children, teens, adults, and families. With a background in community mental health, I treat individuals of any age for issues including anxiety, behavioral issues, social issues, stress management, depression and grief and loss. It is my belief that therapy should be client-centered and individualized to meet the needs, desires, and life experiences of each client. No two people need exactly the same therapeutic space, and it is the therapist’s job to find modalities to provide personalized and evidence-based care. I see great value in strength-based and relational approaches.  I utilize eco-systemic family therapy, relational therapy, The Gottman Method, TF-CBT, DBT, mindfulness based interventions, internal family systems, solution focused therapy and motivational interviewing. Regardless of what brings you into a therapy office, I welcome the opportunity to be a non-judgemental, compassionate and affirming space.
